Yesterday was another beautiful day in northern California, so I went on a photo adventure. I was lucky enough to get a few non-blurry shots of these birds, one of them I thought was an owl but upon closer inspection it may be a falcon of some kind. I also saw a huge white egret but couldn't get a good shot of it. Wildlife is fascinating. -MLK

The smell of fall is by far one of my favorite smells. Such wonderful memories come flooding back to me, like jumping in a huge pile of maple leaves when I was 8, eating baked cinnamon apples for breakfast, waiting eagerly for the first day Jack Frost would come to town, and blustery middle school soccer practice when the sun would set at what seemed like 3pm! California is a little different than the Northeast. El Niño is the new Jack Frost. Fifty five degrees is the new thirty degrees. But there's still a faint scent of crispy leaves and chilled air. I wish I could invent a camera that captures both the image of something, and the noise/scent/taste of that thing. My flower photos would smell amazing. And a picture of a delicious pasta dinner would bring you to another dimension. Who knows... the way technology is going, it could happen!
Here are some shots for you to indulge your senses in. Happy fall! -MLK Some people don't like lens flares in photography. I personally think they're so cool and dynamic, and the colors they produce are beautiful! I'd like to think they are a sign from another dimension, maybe a spirit photobombing the shot!
Here are some shots I took on a beautiful afternoon this week in Northern California. -MLK Hard to believe it's already November 5th! It feels like yesterday the trees were just starting to make me sneeze. In honor of the springtime, which feels so far away right now, and #throwbackthursday, these are some photos I took way back in high school, with a tiny point & shoot camera. I love working with nature and the elements in photography, especially rain! There's something about the way a raindrop adds so much more to a photo, another dimension perhaps. I also find myself drawn to macro photography; insects and tiny details in nature are so fun to examine under a microscope-like camera lens.
More to come! -MLK For as long as I can remember, I've loved photography. It's a sort of therapy for me. My decision to start this blog has been a long time coming, and my third attempt at making my work public. The working business name "Pilot's Daughter Photography" stems from reality, as both of my parents were private pilots. Being in the air was a large part of my childhood, and my love of flying hasn't diminished one bit (exemplified by my recent skydives in NC and CA). The name is subject to change, but for now, PDP seems an appropriate title for my amateur business.
I'm very excited to have this outlet for my work. Some of the gallery photos are from as early as 2009, and the photo on my contact page is me at 10 years old on a photo water safari in South Africa. Now, with my new DSLR Canon Rebel T5, I will be able to take quality photos regularly and post my photographic epiphanies with ease and confidence. Hooray! Here we go! -MLK Below is an adorable little goat from the Sonoma County Fair, July 2015 |
