It's been three years since I started this blog. I started it out of desperation for an artistic outlet in the midst of my artistically dry life- at the time. I started it because people told me to. I started it to share this facet of my person with the cyber world. I'm so proud of the consistency of this blog, and I hope to continue this work through the next phase of my life. I'm considering archiving this particular blog and starting anew, but we'll see. It's a project I can't commit to, just yet. For now, I will continue to post at least once a month- more, if I can. It grounds me to grab my camera and document my adventures in the wild.
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. -Ferris Bueller One year ago, my bones rolled over the New Mexico border into Colorado. A fire was lit in me, and I came home. The mountains have called to me for most of my life, and I'm so thankful to be celebrating one year of living in the epic high mountains. I see the snowy caps every day, and feel a flutter in my heart.
Some photos from a celebratory walk in the field, and on a hike above tree line! I was surrounded by aspen trees when I found my confidence. It was in a remote spot in the middle of Colorado, 12 years ago. That was a time of transition for me, and that's when I found myself drawn to the magic of an aspen grove. Ever since, these leaves have been a source of comfort and power for me. I love their color changes, the pink of the stems, the powder of the bark. The whole tree makes me feel safe, even if I'm literally in the middle of nowhere. To be back with them, to watch them change with the season, brings me inexplicable joy.
The sunset on 9/11 was glorious. Here are a couple highlights.
The days are filling up again. Many plans, many goals, and yet it feels like so little time to meet them. All we can do is take it one sunset at a time. Enjoy the colors that mesmerize your eyeballs and stay present. Enjoy! -mlk So many fires. So little green. Here's a dose of green for you.
And please do a rain dance for Colorado. Stormy afternoons are happening more frequently now. The shattered plates of soil transform from the rain, drinking up every drop of water the skies care to provide. It's beautiful, and scary; fire fear is ever present. We do a rain dance every day.
These are post storm photos. I was feeling spicy when I edited these, so they're a little more saturated than I usually like. But life is short. enjoy! -mlk A few shots from a beautiful day in May.
Featuring a local Great Horned Owl, and my favorite color green. Click on smaller images to enlarge. :) -mlk |
